Metro Manila's Train Accessibility Crisis for Persons with Disabilities

Posted By : Admin    August 30, 2017

Taking the train in Metro Manila is challenging for persons with disabilities (PWDs) due to insufficient facilities and numerous barriers. Bless Adriano, a visually impaired office worker, has to rely on her elderly mother for commuting. The train system, encompassing LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3, lacks accessible features such as functional ramps, unlocked public toilets, working ticket machines, and elevators. Rappler, with accessibility groups Kasali Tayo and Move As One Coalition, conducted a walkthrough of 46 train stations, finding that 80% lacked fully accessible entrances and many had other significant accessibility issues, making independent travel nearly impossible for PWDs. - Pia Ranada | Read more: https://tinyurl.com/yc63v7vn
